About the Purchase Chess Foundation
President, Tom Knight, has been promoting chess in Western Kentucky for over a decade. He started a chess club at Graves County High School in the fall of 2009. Over the next 6 years he made that high school club into a district-wide chess program that is self-sustaining with funding from a district chess booster club. The Purchase Chess Foundation is the product of West Kentucky Chess.
In 2016 West Kentucky Chess provided the region with its first chess camp since the passing of Dr. Wayne Bell. Since the creation of West Kentucky Chess, Tom Knight has been able to provide the region with several chess tournament opportunities; both Open and scholastic.
Currently, the PCF works to raise money for the scholarships it has in place; one for chess ability and one for chess promotion and advancement. The PCF raises funds through contributions from area sponsors and events that promote chess.
